hi, I’m Alice

and I’m a writer. I’ve written some books (among them, Why Women Grow: Soil, Sisterhood and Survival and Rootbound: Rewilding a Life), dozens of columns (you can currently find me in the pages of The Guardian on a Saturday and The New Statesman) and 15 years’ worth of pop culture journalism. But I set up savour because I wanted a space to write about something that other places don’t publish: the small, overlooked but vital parts of living. The raw edges. The joyful banalities. The smell of burnt toast hanging over the kitchen table. You’ll find all of that here.

subscribe for something new

savour offers a new way of looking at things: something to think about, to relish, to enjoy. Among all the marketing emails and unwanted updates, savour will flump into your inbox once a week like a bit of good news. I started savour because I didn’t want to be pigeonholed into writing about just one thing, so one week you might receive a short essay on car sweets, and the next might be dedicated to Impressionist art.

Paying subscribers have compared savour to “like contemplating the paintings of Old Dutch Masters”, or “like taking a deep breath and then clearing my head.”

call it a pastry

You can subscribe to savour for one free essay a month. For £50 a year - or £5.00 a month - you will receive weekly essays, or savour letters, on Wednesdays and savourites, a fortnightly Friday letter of the links, recommendations and good things that I’ve enjoyed that week - morsels to enjoy for the weekend.

Paying savour members also get access to the bountiful archive as well as members-only events, usually for free, and retreats.

and savour together

Savouring is better together. In subscribing, you’re joining a group of like-minded people. You’re so welcome to share what you savour in the comments.

still hungry?
