Surprise! Some helpful posts I thought decided some time in the scant February sun we enjoyed a little of this week. savour members get full access to my archive, which contains some 300 (!) essays, lists and other things, but I appreciate that it’s not always easy to go wading through it. So, a digest for you. Happy Friday!
1. what happened when I deleted instagram
Having time away has made me examine what I share, and why. It’s made me relish things for what they are, rather than what they might look like on a screen on somebody else’s feed.
2. what I’ve loved reading, what you might too
10 books that have made me think, weep (rare but all the better for it), laugh and linger - nearly all I’ve read or re-read this year.
3. birthday resolutions as I turned 35
a list of sorts for a new year ahead. One that comes with the caveat that these are path-markers rather than ambitions to be upheld or ticked off.
4. small good things to read, watch and listen to
Nothing that will sit in your browser tabs for a week and then be desultorily closed days later (just me?) or demand too much of your time or brain.
5. writing hacks I use when actually trying to do the thing
while I use them to help me write, I think they’d work for other things you need to get done, whether that’s jobs around the house or tackling the gross things in your inbox.
