I suppose it must be almost exactly a year to when savour first began. I wrote about it here, but it involved a soft black notebook I’ve long filled up and misplaced, and the almost intangible glimmer of something hopeful and bold: that I could write, weekly, on the delicious things in life. It took a few months to get off the ground but by May savour was born, and now we are here, 60-odd issues down and thousands of you reading them. It still feels a bit too good to be true.
This will be the last savour dispatch of 2023. Nobody really wants to read emails too close to Christmas, and I’ve a new soft notebook and some things I’d like to thrash out in it over these dark evenings. Thank you - a proper, genuinely grateful thank you - for subscribing, for sharing and for supporting this endeavour of mine. It’s been a huge pleasure to write to you every week and to push my brain into new spaces. I definitely feel that this is just the beginning for savour, and that the next year will see it becoming something even more exciting. To those of you who have been generous enough to support savour with a paid subscription, you’re who are spurring me on and will reap the benefits - thank you!
And so to the last savourites of the year. It’s a typical time, I suppose, for reflection: as much looking forward to what’s next as to what took us here. With that in mind, I’ve rounded up some of the things I’ve most cherished from this year - and I’d heartily invite you to share some of yours in the comments. Wishing you a Christmas that is merry and bright, and I’ll see you in the New Year!
